Media Round-up from First Denver Presser

I’ll admit it. I like one-stop shopping. Be it retail, food, or simply news on my favorite athletes. So, below are a couple of coverage bytes from Brady’s first meeting with the Denver area press. Also, I really like how he asked media members to introduce themselves before things got underway. Very professional. That’s our Brady!

Having spent 3 seasons looking at the Cleveland Browns’ official website and video offerings, I can tell you that I’m already liking the Denver Broncos’ website much more. The production quality of the video is clearly superior.

And one more time, I’d like to take some time to reiterate that this is a FAN BLOG, as is our Twitter account. We have added a lot of new followers since the trade, and just want to make sure everyone knows we are fans. The real Brady Quinn has not yet jumped into the Twitterverse. And, if he does, we’ll let everyone know!

BRADY QUINN IS A BUCKING DENVER BRONCO

Browns trade QB Brady Quinn

CLEVELAND (AP) – The Cleveland Browns have traded quarterback Brady Quinn to the Denver Broncos for fullback Peyton Hillis and a 2011 draft pick.

The teams announced the trade Sunday and said the deal is pending physicals.

Quinn’s departure comes one day after the Browns agreed to terms with free agent Jake Delhomme on a two-year contract.

EXPECT MAJOR CHANGES AROUND HERE TOO! Stay Tuned!!

Take away the crap Brown color and add Blue. I can live with that! And maybe South Park will have an episode! (Be nice guys!)

Hillis, two picks acquired for Quinn

From Cleveland Browns Official Site. This may be the last time I ever go there.

The Cleveland Browns acquired running back Peyton Hillis and two future undisclosed draft choices in exchange for quarterback Brady Quinn, the team announced on Sunday.

“I appreciate everything Brady did for us last year and in his three seasons with the Cleveland Browns,” said Browns Head Coach Eric Mangini. “He is professional in the way he goes about doing his job and worked extremely hard at every aspect of his game. I wish him the best of success in Denver.”

The 24-year-old Hillis is a veteran of two NFL seasons who was a seventh-round draft choice of Denver in 2008. He played in 28 games with eight starts in his two years with the Broncos and totaled 397 yards rushing and six touchdowns on 81 attempts (4.9 avg.) and caught 18 passes for 198 yards and a touchdown. As a rookie in 2008, he started six of the 12 games in which he appeared and rushed for 343 yards and five scores on 68 carries (5.0 avg.) and amassed 14 receptions for 179 yards and a touchdown. His rushing total as a rookie included a 129-yard effort at the Jets on November 30 when he carried the ball 22 times and scored a touchdown in Denver’s 34-17 victory.

The 6-2, 250-pound Hillis lettered four years at the University of Arkansas (2004-07) and rushed for 959 yards and 12 touchdowns on 203 attempts and caught 118 passes for 1,195 yards and 11 scores. Born January 21, 1986, Hillis attended Conway (Ark.) High School.

So Brady is going to Denver… that doesn’t mean we are going anywhere. Sure, a few cosmetic changes will be forth coming, but in the mean time check out Brady’s Bunch.

We Bid Thee Adieu Derek Anderson

That didn’t take long.

When I spoke to Brady and told him that we were all behind him and that he had to kick Derek’s ass to be the starter, he laughed and looked over at his manager. It was a polite laugh nothing to it. As I look back at the pictures, the look he gave his manager was more like, “Don’t I know it.” His manager laughed as well. Brady’s the gravy train after all.

But I know Brady better now. We know he has no animosity towards Derek. They were friends in Cleveland; better competitors, good teammates. Brady has nothing but the best of intentions and wishes for Derek. We also know Brady has drive. He has ambition, and this is very good news.

Mr. Quinn may not admit it, but he must be experiencing schadenfreude, a German word which roughly translates to “shameful joy”. It means the joy we sometimes cannot help but experience when we hear about another’s misfortune. Scratch that. We here at www.brady-quinn.org DEFINITELY are.

As I mature, and take the criticisms of bashing Derek unnecessarily to heart, I do want to thank him for what he did in 2007. It was lucky for us that we followed Brady to Cleveland from Notre Dame. He did not get to start, but it was still with a successful team thanks, in part, to Derek. Lots of face time for the Quinn-man. And, of course, this led to lots of prime-time viewing as ESPN and other affiliates picked up and broadcasted the Browns. Who would have thunk it?

Derek’s leaving is not a time for celebrating. It is a clarion call that there is a new czar in town and he’s got a plan. It is a time to get back to work. Brady is part of that plan, and this opportunity will not go by the wayside. He is a most determined, sincere man with a work ethic scarcely unparalleled in such a fierce competitive sport. For those of you who want the Browns to do well; there is change coming that you CAN believe in.

No more pics of Derek on his tookus, or gravestones with his name on it. No more kicking the tv, or yelling at my co-workers poking fun at the Browns. No more rants on the Brady Quinn message board or waiting in line to fill my Xanax prescription before and after games. There is optimism in the air and it is not all about Brady. I like what Holmgren is doing. From someone who doesn’t over-analyze every football move and motive (or understand them), I see that there is an intelligent design in Cleveland; and it’s got HOPE written all over it. Those Browns fans better than I call it BELIEVELAND.

Seneca Wallace: a Threat to Brady Quinn?

No. He is not. He is a treat. The trick will be getting rid of Derek and putting fate back into Quinn’s hands.

Honestly, I have never heard of Seneca Wallace. I thought it was a new variety of apple or something. I did some quick looking up (very quick) and went back to bed. I’m not worried about him at all. In fact I am overjoyed. It all but puts the last nail in Derek Anderson’s Cleveland Coffin.

Unlike some reports that Seneca some how threatens Brady’s position with the Browns, I try to maintain a straight face when I think of Derek Anderson leaving the Browns. Hey. Do YOU have an extra 2 MILLION DOLLARS to keep Derek Anderson around? And if you do, what the hell is wrong with you?

Don’t you remember Derek being booed off the field on more than one occasion? Sure it is in pretty poor taste to boo anyone at their job no matter how poorly they perform, but Derek also has no star power, and that IS Derek’s fault. He had ample opportunity to show us his leadership, and buddy, that ship has now sailed. (I also have not forgotten the grumblings and unhappiness in the stadium when Brady was at his lowest.)

Now, I AM NOT just a proponent for Brady. This is good. I feel competition brings out the best of us and Brady needs the heat turned up under his sore foot to really bring it together. He would agree with this. He has one more year to really show us what he has got. And if you are one of those pooh-poohers of Brady saying he HAD enough time, that is BS. Playing just six consecutive games doesn’t show you anything substantial. Hints and suggestions maybe, but not career ending-wise. ESPECIALLY under such foolish administration the Browns have had to suffer in.

Of course, I find that Brady has to piecemeal his entire cadre of catchers again and that cannot be easy. Check out the football card that shows Brady and his star catchers. They are all gone now. Braylon was traded (thank-you) and Jamal retired (too bad). Now get me a card with Mohamed Massaquoi and Evan Moore; THERE are two weapons Quinn’s got in his arsenal. … … As long as he can stay healthy and focused to develop them, AND given the time and opportunity. If not… RELEASE BRADY to some other grateful franchise. :!:

This Seneca, THE SHORTEST ACTIVE QB IN THE NFL is 5 feet 11 inches. I cannot begin to tell you how many times I have heard how great it is to have a tall QB looking over the helmets and passing over the heads of the opposition. I’m taller than Brady and a 5′11” person standing next to me makes them look tiny. (Now imagine Brady’s girlfriend standing next to him at 5 feet 1 inch. Now THAT is a cute picture!) And as I was just informed, that Seneca was fighting good ol’ Charlie Frye for the Seattle backup spot after the Browns traded him. That tells me that Holmgren is finally fixing the team up. It is such a strange sensation seeing some rational decisions being made in Cleveland.

Seriously though. Click on this link to see the list of all the apple varieties. Funny how there ISN’T a Seneca Wallace, but there is an Anderson Jonathan.

Wonder if that apple tastes bitter? ;-)

Brady Quinn is Hooraying for Fish

The National Education Association’s Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss. It’s going on in my school and was an inspiration for this post.

In cities and towns across the nation, teachers, teenagers, librarians, politicians, actors, athletes, parents, grandparents, and others develop NEA’s Read Across America activities to bring reading excitement to children of all ages. Governors, mayors, and other elected officials recognize the role reading plays in their communities with proclamations and floor statements. Athletes and actors issue reading challenges to young readers.

National Library Week (April 13 – April 19) is another time many libraries and organizations help celebrate the love of reading. One literacy program from The Cleveland Browns with collaboration from the Public Library of Cuyahoga County was Read with the Browns. From 2007 – 2009 several Browns players sat down and were recorded reading a favorite children’s book. Sadly, I fear this program is over as an ominous “Read with the Browns has concluded” appears on the library’s archival page. I am hopeful that it will resume once the Browns get their franchise up and running in the right direction.

Still, the player’s recitation of their favorite books lives on.

Seems they teach more than just football at Notre Dame. Brady Quinn has read two books for the library. In 2007 he read Chica Chica Boom Boom and in 2008 he read Hooray For Fish! I’m sure the books are entertaining for the kids, but watching these men read them aloud is hilarious. Good thing you stuck with finance and political science, Brady.

Finally, if you are reading this, thank a teacher, and give me back that Filet-O-Fish. Give me that fish.

Brady Quinn Raises Funds For Haiti

Browns QB Brady Quinn to raise funds on South Beach for mobile medical units bound for Haiti

Two mobile medical treatment units will head for Haiti on Tuesday following a fundraising event Monday on South Beach hosted by Cleveland Browns quarterback Brady Quinn.

The vehicles will become outpost where children severely injured by January’s earthquake will receive therapeutic and rehabilitation care.

Dubbed the WishMobiles, the vehicles include the 36-foot Airstream Mobile Medical Treatment Unit and a 22-foot 4×4 mobile medical transport unit.

They were purchased, reconditioned and outfitted for the mission using funds raised by the Granted Wish Foundation of Canton, OH.

Monday night, Quinn will be at the final fundraising event at The Clevelander Hotel, where the mobile units will be parked from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. The hotel is 1020 Ocean Dr.

Funds raised will help stock the vehicles with medical supplies.
