Sorry Charlie: Weis Fired From Notre Dame

It didn’t take a Nostradamus to see this coming, but it also doesn’t help to take the sting out of it either. Notre Dame’s Coach Weis cleaned out his office Thursday, was told not to go on any recruiting trips, and he certainly is not giving any interviews as the coaches and team are off limits to the press. Fleeing the sinking ship, Jimmy Clausen was seen giving his football helmet to his family following the loss to Stanford in which he threw five touchdown passes, a strong indication he will declare for the NFL draft. (As an educator, I disagree with that. It seems defeatist and doesn’t go with Notre Dame’s philosophy of excellence.)

Naturally, the connection is that Brady Quinn was very vocal last week in supporting his former college coach – the one who helped him grow not just professionally, but mentally and spiritually.

“Personally I think it would be a horrible decision if they did make that change,” Quinn said. “I think there are a lot of circumstances that play into seasons like this. Hopefully he’ll have an opportunity to have another year with the guys.”

Seasons like the one YOU’RE having? Well Brady, it’s not going to happen, but I am sure you would agree with me that when God closes a door, he opens a window. And in this case there appears to be six windows flying open. Weis has told people in South Bend that he’s already heard from roughly six NFL teams about becoming their offensive coordinator next season, sources told ESPN.

I, personally, am not a big Notre Dame fan. I really don’t follow college football, but I am observant. Let me see if I got this right.

  • There’s a really good coach who was fired because, according to ND’s director Jack Swarbrick, “We have great expectations for our football program, and we have not been able to meet those expectations.” There was some success a few years ago, but it has been getting worse since.
  • Brady stated, “I know as a player there, one of the things we prided ourselves on was winning games and not worrying about stats or individual accolades, but pulling through tight games and winning games and going in there and fighting every week.”

… and this…

  • “I think if you’ve got enough talent on that team, there’s guys that need to pull together and start finding ways to win.”112909btq57-46

Sounds like the Cleveland Browns to me. It isn’t a far stretch of the imagination. I think it is pulling it a bit though thinking Weis and Brady will team up again. The odds are against it, but Brady thinks. “It’d be nice. I’d like to play under him again if I had the opportunity. It’d be cool.”

Seeing you do better on the field would be cool too, Brady. Ouch, that one stung.

Brady Quinn Nominated as Player of the Week

And YOU can help Quinn win!

11220914-09

Brady is competing against two other worthy players. BUT, Brett Favre has won three times already, one of them being last week, and Matthew Stafford, although he played great, isn’t the main subject of this website ;-)

So, go to the NFL.com’s website by clicking QUINN TO WIN! And finally put Brady up with the winners where he belongs! Remember!  You can vote as many times as you like. So if you are waiting for dinner, the girlfriend to get off the phone, or NCIS to come on tv; then sit your butt in front of the computer and click away!

If Quinn receives the most fan votes, FedEx will make a $1,000 donation in his name to the local Safe Kids USA coalition in Cleveland to help fund child and pedestrian safety. Depending on specific needs, the donation could go towards painting crosswalks, installing signs, landscaping near sidewalks and playgrounds, installing bike racks, and developing educational programs and events to teach kids about pedestrian safety.

Voting is from 9 a.m. ET on Tuesday through noon ET on Friday. The winners will be announced on Friday evening. And in case you missed the AWESOME GAME OF THE BROWNS VS. THE LIONS, the NFL Network is showing it on NFL Replay Wednesday, November 25 at 8:00PM. 11220934-45

It’s about damn time we see this boy highlighted, in the marquee, and up for awards.

A Loss Never Felt So Good

Now there is something to shout about!

  • Brady Quinn celebrates after his 59 yard pass for the first Brown touchdown in a LONG time to Mohamed Massaquoi.
  • Oh Snap! What a sec. Nine minutes later he threw a 40 yarder to Chansi Stuckey for another TD!
  • WTF? Another TD pass to Phil Dawson about a minute later?

APTOPIX Browns Lions Football

And you say all of this happened in the first quarter? Wow. Just Wow.

Now let me get this out of the way first and foremost. It was a loss and it was against the Lions, but if you were like me, and many other thousands of Browns and Brady fans, you needed a good stiff drink or at the very least someone to help you back to your feet because you got a case of the vapors. The Browns are very VERY far from being the best they can be, but don’t rain on this little parade. It’s the small things that count sometimes.

I cannot get over the feeling that I was seeing the Brady Quinn from his Notre Dame days (and those fans could use some good feelings); that THIS was the Brady Quinn all of his true fans knew resided within him and his team.

Naturally, when Brady was asked if he was happy the way he played he said, “We didn’t win, so I’m never happy when we don’t win.” I expected this, but I was able to catch a smile at the post game interview anyway.

11220910-32

Besides, Brady does not need to gloat, his numbers can speak for themselves…

He attempted 31 passes with 21 complete for a total 304 yards.  Four of those passes were touchdowns, and interceptions do not plague this guy. He had none, and his QB rating was one of the highest Sunday with 133.1. And some dorks on another website comment what is the big deal? The big deal is that last week Brady’s rating was 23.5 and this week there was more points than the last five games combined! The bigger deal is that a little bit of courage and enthusiasm was injected into this stagnant team. But the biggest deal of all was to his fans who will celebrate for him that he did very well!

I felt that Brady’s accomplishments were overshadowed by Matthew Stafford who had an even more awesome game. And I guess (reluctanly) rightly so. But you know, that could have and SHOULD HAVE been Brady’s rookie season. You know it wasn’t and you know why – we just had to settle to wait (very nervously so at times).

I’d be remiss if I didn’t bring up next week’s game against the Bengals. The game is in Cincinnati’s playpen and now NO ONE knows what to expect.  They beat the Browns nemesis, the Steelers not once, but twice! They also beat the Bears and the Ravens. Sounds good right? So what happened with losing to the Oakland Raiders last night? You heard me. They lost!  If the Bengals bring THAT kind of play back home and the Browns bring their’s from yesterday, we’d have an interesting game to watch.

So you thought that was fun and you’re very glad for Brady? Well, a lot more fun was had at the Brady Quinn Fan’s message board, The Brady’s Bunch. Many pictures, stories, and ways fans got through watching and listening to that game were had.

Brady Quinn’s Story from Mashal Clothes

11090956-31The Mashal Clothing line’s mission is not just to create clothing, but to create artistic clothes that tell a story through its art, fashion, and design.

Their story:

The very definition of Mashal means “story” and that is underlying in all we do. Through every art piece produced these stories come to life and are revealed. We know everyone has a story, or something, that has shaped them into who they are today. We have built a community around this very premise and plan to carry it through out the world.

An interesting public relations and advertising concept is having various talents tell their story; how they came to be where they are in their lives now. Although recently Mashal has only had people in the realm of music tell their story, they have obviously branched out with Brady Quinn.

11090924-53

It is easy to understand Brady’s draw to these clothes. He has worn shirts similar to this before and I am sure the religious connotations appeal to him. The shirt he’s wearing spells GIVE with the neck line and the Mashal’s logo has a crown of thorns. What is revealing is what that ONE defining moment was that changed Brady’s life forever. I’ll let him tell you, but one very important component in Brady’s life that was not unexpected is Brady’s perserverance and his trust and faith in God.YouTube Preview Image

STOP! DO NOT PASS GO. PAY $10,000 FINE

At first I was hoping that Brady would not have to pay a fine for inadvertently tackling Terrell Suggs in the knees during Monday Night Football against the Ravens. Those of us who know Brady, or frequent this website or message board (see below), know that it was unintentional. It would be like Michelle Obama raising her hand and accidently smacking the Queen of England in the face. ” REBELLIOUS! CHEAP-SHOT! VILLIAN!”  Loud-mouth Raven, Ray Lewis, cawing like a brat in the classroom, “If I got fined, why isn’t Brady?” certainly brought enough attention to it.

Second of all, who was watching the game? We die-hard fans even were hard pressed to watch. If it weren’t for those hot pictures and video caps of Brady, we would have turned in. I mean seriously, this issue reached into the Top Ten of Goggle’s Trends. Nevermind the space shuttle docking with the space station, the pandemic of H1N1, President Obama meeting his half-brother in China, or that nuisance war s  t  i  l  l going on. Nope. It is Brady Quinn and the Cheap Chop Block.bobblehead

So Brady got fined. Good. Everything is fair and equal. You can go back to your end of the sandbox Ray. I say this because if things were reversed and someone hit Brady like that I WOULD WANT BLOOD. So to put it into perspective, I understand and am glad Brady got the reported $10,000 fine. Image the hoopla if he did not! Our sand and soapbox malcontent, Lewis, said it should be the same as the $25,000 fine he incurred for helmet to helmet contact. Uhm, apples to apples there buddy.

Finally, Brady is good for the money. Just look at his marketability. He is ON THE BROWNS and gets more press than other more successful quarterbacks. Go ahead and type quarterback into Google or Bing and hit IMAGES. Yep. There’s m’boy. Don’t care for Brady, blasphemer? Well too late. By reading this you’re increasing that Google trend and his Q-Score. And, thanks to you, I bought the Brady Quinn bobblehead. Sure it looks like Matt Damon, but does YOUR favorite player have one sanctioned by his own team? In limited quantities? Shake your head no.

And I for one am NOT happy that Johnny Depp is the new “sexiest man.” I think there is a better choice and it is obvious.

Derek Anderson Gets Whacked Yo

09210912-30

Brady Quinn to start against Ravens Monday Night

I was going to put a question mark after that title, but honestly it is the right move and if you doubt me check out the ESPN video below. Be sure to look at that RED mark on Derek Anderson’s stats towards the end.

Happily, this is ESPN’s Monday Night Football so many of us will be able to see Brady do his job. If the boy doesn’t know now that he has to showcase his talents and not be so protective of the ball, I don’t know what will. You can do it Brady. We’re behind you!

CONFIRMED!!

Head Coach Eric Mangini says, “He’s had good weeks of practice. He’s worked hard since the first transition was made. I look forward to him taking advantage of this opportunity and helping us improve.”

Hear that Brady? Take advantage of this opportunity, because heaven knows with this managerial style if and when you will ever get another chance.

MAN-DERSON Lead the Browns to Another Loss

Yeah, I said it. Eric Mangini and Derek Anderson belong together. Manderson. They both are incompetent and prove week after week they do not have what it takes to lead. Where are those mouthy Derek Anderson supporters now?

Bears fans, in their own stadium mind you, cheered when Brady Quinn was put in; maybe for some competition? Final score was 30 to 6.  Is Brady the light at the end of the tunnel? Maybe, but when the tunnel is a sewer everyone wants out.
