Mangini Confirms Open QB Competition
I touched on this in yesterday’s post, and now I can add a little bit more to the topic.
It seems that Browns GM Kokinis and Coach Mangini are on the same page and expect an open competition this Spring/Summer for the starting QB job.
Speaking from the owners meetings, in California, Mangini offered the following:
“I talked to both of them about that and was very clear. I said if they have any questions they can come and see me. In terms of the competition and their opportunities. That’s what I told them. They understand that.”
Even after this news, Mangini cautions that a trade could still happen, provided the right situation — to improve the team — presents itself.
GM: Quinn Not Being Shopped
According to the Akron Beacon Journal, GM George Kokinis has said that he has not “shopped” Brady or teammate Braylon Edwards to other NFL teams.
We all know the league’s rumor mill has been running overtime in recent weeks after the Jay Cutler brouhaha. So while the GM has come out and stated this, it doesn’t necessarily mean that Brady cannot be traded. It just means, the Browns aren’t pitching any trade scenarios that involve Brady or Braylon.
Kokinis went on to say that he expects there to be another good old fashioned QB training camp battle this summer, starring Brady and DA. It remains to be seen if that happens or not.
Brady was asked, by the publication, for his thoughts on all the trade rumors. And as usual, he has a healthy perspective on the situation.
”There’s nothing really you can do about it. Obviously, I want to be in Cleveland. I grew up rooting for ‘em; I’m totally living my dream now. It’s out of your control.”
and, in closing:
There’s always rumors; it’s the drama of the NFL.
Taking it all in stride, I’m sure!
Brady Quinn Honorary Chairman at Hannah and Friends Gala
flyte44
As previously posted, Brady was in New York City at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel for the St. Patrick’s Day Hannah and Friends Charitable Gala. He was one of ten honorary chairmen supporting the organization named after the daughter of his former college head coach, Charlie Weis.
SOUND OFF: Is the hair getting a mite too long, or is it just his ‘winter coat?’ Comment and state your case.
psst… Brady, come here. You espouse the benefits of Trigosamine and EAS, why not try to be the poster boy (man) for Proactiv?
Brady Quinn Ready To Go
Courtesy of ESPN and Cathy, a Brady lover from the message board.
Brady shamelessly plugs his energy drink, and, as is his way, is noncommital when asked if he’d like to have Terrell Owens to throw to on the field. But if you read his body language and gauge the tone of his answer you can pretty much agree that Brady also thinks T.O. is stadium strychnine.
Quinn’s take on T.O. from the Plain Dealer today, March 8, 2009…
On ESPN’s “First Take,” Brady Quinn was asked what he would say if Browns management came to him and said the team was considering signing Terrell Owens.
Quinn replied: “That’s tough. I think you should just leave that up to coach [Eric] Mangini and [GM] George Kokinis, as well. Quarterbacks are greedy. So I think any time you have a talented guy like T.O., you’d probably think, ‘Oh yeah, bring him on.’ [But] we have tremendously talented receivers . . . and we’re pretty comfortable where we’re at.”
Yeah. We’re pretty comfortable where we are at. And besides, we get to see T.O. and Brady together (maybe on the sidelines) when the Browns and Bills play late in the 2009 season.
A cold T.O.. Think he can talk smack when he is shivering so much?
Don’t believe the hype
Internet rumors are notorious. Rarely ever do they pan out and this one is no different. Trading Brady Quinn for Jake Cutler? BAH I tell you! Laughable! Don’t believe me? Then read Cleveland’s Plain Dealer reporter, Tony Grossi. And if you still don’t believe me, just let the facts speak for themselves…
Does this look like a fair trade to you?
