Monday Update, or Lack Thereof

So, I thought we’d hear something about any adjustments the Browns were going to make for this weekend’s game against their in-state rivals. But it looks and sounds like a whole lot of the same.

As of right now, Derek Anderson will still be the starting QB, but Brady will get more reps in practice. That’s great. Not sure what getting increased practice reps means if you don’t ever insert BQ into the game. It’s funny how Charlie Frye essentially had 1 bad game and was traded, yet DA can have multiple poor showings and never get pulled.

Sounds like all of this was just an attempt to deflect pressure. Didn’t work. There are rumors circulating — keeping in mind that Crennel signed an extension in the off season — that Romeo may get the axe if he doesn’t lead the team to victory soon. Can’t say I’d miss him, but maybe that’s just me.

Not to state the obvious, but the status quo is not going to get the Browns in the win column. We need more than talk!

Just hold your horses. As the days progress towards the 28th, meetings have been held and talks are becoming more, shall we say, interesting? The article below was printed by the Associated Press after your entry. More information there? MY call, is that Derek will start - see if there is an improvement, and if it is status quo, Brady will come in; and stay in hopefully.

Browns consider starting Quinn at QB
    By The Associated Press
    Tuesday, September 23, 2008

Brady Quinn hurried from the shower, dressed quickly and hustled out of Cleveland’s locker room so he wouldn’t be late for Monday’s team meeting.

“Sorry, guys,” he said to reporters after taking only a few questions.

Quinn was on the run, and the Browns’ popular backup quarterback could soon be moving up the depth chart.

With his team off to an unexpected 0-3 start and Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Anderson coming off another rough performance, Cleveland coach Romeo Crennel said he is assessing his team and considering personnel changes leading into Sunday’s game against the winless Cincinnati Bengals.

Crennel was asked if quarterback would be one of the spots where he would consider going in a different direction.

“We have to look at all of the positions,” Crennel said. “We’ll definitely try to get the other guy ready and get him ready to go and we’ll see how it progresses from there.”

That article — and more importantly, the quotes — was ciruclating much earlier in the day. I saw it hours before I made this post. The quotes came from Coach Crennel’s press conference, which was posted on ClevelandBrowns.com (http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/multimedia/mediaplayer.php?id=5316). The “looking at all positions” quote, among others, was scrolling on ESPN alllll day. So, I saw all that stuff before writing this post.

Didn’t change my update. “Looking at all positions” is still just more talk. Change the depth chart, then we’ll talk!

Until someone in the Browns organization actually makes a move, it’s, IMO, just another attempt to try to get some of the pressure off; like I said.
