Brady Says “Blame Me For Loss”

Martyr much?

After last night’s less than stellar performance by the entire Browns team, Brady has decided to take the blame for the whole mess. While the QB certainly is the key to the offense — and his play left much to be desired — I think he’s being way too hard on himself.

“There’s nothing unfair about it. You can say it was a short week. You can say what you want, but I’m not that type of guy. I completely take the burden for his loss. I didn’t execute and I didn’t get in a rhythm to let the team drive down the field.”

All I’m saying is that Brady didn’t lose that game all by himself. Last time I checked, there were many others out on that field who were underperforming. That is all.

I agree: Brady is being hard on himself. He didn’t lose the game all by himself. The defense & o-line weren’t playing well yesterday, and were definitely underperforming.

But this is classic Brady. I’d rather him be strong in his convictions about the loss than some other QBs who make every excuse under the sun EXCEPT themselves.

Brady is very serious. We’ll see the proverbial phoenix rise soon with him. This was his first time starting and things just didn’t go so well as he’d liked; better to be hard on your self now at the start then have to make more excuses for yourself later.

This is really an indication of STRONG character - not being too hard on yourself. Wouldn’t we have a bit more respect for President Bush in matters Iraq if he said, “…I completely take the burden for [t]his loss. I didn’t execute and I didn’t get in a rhythm…” Think about it.

Maybe he didn’t have a great game, but at least he did not turn the ball over. That shows good decision-making in my opinion. It shows that he read the defense well enough to know where NOT to throw the ball.

He’ll learn from this and work hard to correct mistakes. I’m not worried.

We’ll have to agree to disagree. It’s completely unreasonable to blame himself for a loss in a team sport. And like I said, while the QB is key, that doesn’t explain the defense’s play.

Not giving excuses for his own play and poor execution is definitely something I would expect from him. I’ll agree with you on that. He always holds himself accountable for his play on the field.

But he doesn’t need to fall on the sword. There were a lot of reasons the Browns came out flat and some of them had absolutely nothing to do with him!

In my eyes, that’s being too hard on oneself.
