STO Replay

Ohio fans, listen up!

If you missed the game, and your cable package contains Sports Time Ohio (STO), you will be able to watch a replay the Bears/Browns game at 9AM.

Check your local listings!

Another Preseason Loss: Browns 10, Bears 16

As you can see from the above graphic, Brady did well, as we all had hoped he would. He led the team to its only 2 scores of the night and looked sharp and confident in doing so. Bravo.

Holy cow on all of those injuries though! Hope they aren’t too serious. You never want to see guys go down.

Brady to get Start #2?

Sure looks like it!

DA returned to practice for a little bit yesterday, but Coach Crennel has said that he doesn’t think it was enough to warrant playing him in tomorrow’s preseason finale against the Bears.

So, if Derek doesn’t play, that’s another start for Brady. Romeo said he’d like play Brady for the first half before giving the rest of the reps to Ken Dorsey.

WR Braylon Edwards still won’t play, because of his hilarious foot injury, which bums me. I really, really, really wanted Brady to get some quality game time passing to Braylon. Who knows when his next chance will be. Joe Jurevicius, another target, is out too, and will remain so for at least 6 weeks.

Kickoff is tomorrow at 7:30 PM (ET) from Cleveland Browns Stadium. I’m not too sure about nationwide coverage, but it will air in central (WBNS, CBS) and northest (WKYC, NBC) Ohio. In Chicago, Fox 32 will show the game. Additionally, NFL Network will replay the game Sunday at 1PM. If you want to watch online, Browns Backer and ChannelSurfing.net have you covered!

Suddenly this song is playing in a loop inside my head? Foreshadowing? Perhaps!

Introducing BQTV

In case you haven’t noticed, there’s a new somepin’ somepin’ on the sidebar (to your left) called “Brady Quinn TV”.

This is where I’ll put the latest video I feel like sharing on the site. Yes, I know the BQF YouTube Channel is still around, but when using YouTube you have to worry about the Copyright police rolling through and deleting your vids. I don’t have to worry so much with this site.

So, check out that spot for the latest Brady video. I’m not going to post everything, though. The Browns website makes it entirely too difficult to cap their multimedia and I’m too lazy to do that on a regular basis. BQTV could feature a cool Brady play from a game, a vintage interview, or just fluff. You never know!

Brady Says “Blame Me For Loss”

Martyr much?

After last night’s less than stellar performance by the entire Browns team, Brady has decided to take the blame for the whole mess. While the QB certainly is the key to the offense — and his play left much to be desired — I think he’s being way too hard on himself.

“There’s nothing unfair about it. You can say it was a short week. You can say what you want, but I’m not that type of guy. I completely take the burden for his loss. I didn’t execute and I didn’t get in a rhythm to let the team drive down the field.”

All I’m saying is that Brady didn’t lose that game all by himself. Last time I checked, there were many others out on that field who were underperforming. That is all.

Browns Go Down in Motown

Ouch...
Well that was ugly…

Just couldn’t get anything going.

The highlight of the game for me? Watching the Lions WR Mike Furrey make some catches. Let me explain! I went to high school with Mike. Great guy! Still calls Central Ohio home in the offseason.

So, here are Brady’s stats from the game: 14 of 24 for 106 yds. No TD’s or INT’s. [BOXSCORE]

Another Apology

Sorry the site was unavailable for much of the evening. I finally broke down and decided to upgrade to the latest version of WordPress after testing it out throroughly on other websites.

I ran into a few snags that required support from my hosting problem, but now that those are ironed out, the site is up and running with just a few issues here and there.

As you were…

Brady Will Start on Saturday

I know this is a little “Captain Obvious” of me, but I felt the need to post that Brady will indeed be the starter for this Saturday’s preseason game against the Detroit Lions.

After DA’s “mild concussion” there really was no need to rush him back into the lineup and risk further injury, so Brady gets the nod. He finally gets a chance to play with the starters who make everyone look good. Hopefully his name will be added to that list.

“You gotta have fun with it, especially my first time. I get to start now. So it will be a good opportunity, and I’m looking forward to it.”

Watch Brady’s post-practice press conference from today, here.

The Browns travel to Detroit to meet the Lions Saturday. The game has a 4:00 PM kickoff. Keep an eye on ChannelSurfing.net for how you may be able to watch or listen to this game online. Thankfully, CBS will air it locally in my market, so I’ll be able to watch again.

Browns Fall 34-37 to Super Bowl Champs

I didn’t get to see the game because I was out watching my Buckeyes practice. However, I DVR’d it and got a couple of updates from the always reliable John telling me how well Brady was playing. Always good to hear.

From various game recaps, it look like the 1st teamers played horribly during their drives, digging themselves a sizeable hole with a 3-30 deficit. The team also didn’t help itself with all the penalties.

Derek Anderson left the game with a possible concussion, and Brady came in to lead the team back. You never wish injury upon anyone, so I genuinely hope DA is ok. My head hurts just thinking about a concussion. Regardless, this situation could prove to be just what Brady needs to ‘strut his stuff’. We shall see.

By the time Brady was relieved by Ken Dorsey, he had gone 7 for 12, accumulating 124 yards and 1 TD.

Lastly, what’s with those uniform bottoms?

Brady Quinn – a devoted player in more ways than one

…from special guest poster flyte44

I had a great opportunity to see Brady Quinn (again) at the preseason opener in Cleveland on August 7th, 2008. And even though it was not the best game: hour rain delay, my banner (signed by many players) destroyed, Brady not signing for the fans, Brett Favre usurping the Brown’s attention, and, oh yeah, we lost; I still came out of that game with an overwhelming admiration for Brady – if that is even more possible.

We all know Brady is a religious man. He grew up in a Christian family, and became closer with his Creator in high school as a member of a ministry called Young Life. His faith blossomed more as he attended Notre Dame.

“I’m at the point now where I’m still learning, still trying to figure out who I am as a man following in Christ’s footsteps,” he said at the Alive Festival early this summer. “We all need a savior, and we all need encouraging friends,” Quinn said.

Me, not a religious person in the strictest sense, I was moved at something Brady recently did at that opening game.

I had awesome seats. They are first row right next to the tunnel with nothing in front of me but green grass and players. I had a great view straight down the sideline and thankfully a camera with a powerful zoom. If you followed that game you know one of the Jets, tight end A.J. Schable took a powerful hit head to head against Cleveland offensive lineman Cliff Louis while trying to make a tackle. I heard the hit. It was that powerful. A hush fell across the entire stadium as EMTs and trainers rushed to his side on the field as he lay unmoving in a curled up position.

I admit I thought it was going to be just one of those quick, shake-it-off things, but Schable was on the field for over 12 minutes! And that was when I saw an exceptional thing.

Who was the *first person to walk out on the field*, take a knee, bow his head and pray for A.J.’s health? It was not Brett Favre or a Jet. It wasn’t the offensive line that was on the field when the accident occurred or the Brown’s defense. It was Brady.

I sat there with an unobstructed view as he walked out on the field, knelt, and bowed his head in silent prayer. Soon, with Brady’s silent leadership, the rest of the players on both sides joined in. I was overcome with respect and admiration for this man. I knew Brady was a pious individual, but seeing it in print and witnessing it first hand are two different things and it gave me goosebumps.

A.J. Schabel is ok. He gave a thumbs up when he was wheeled off the field on a stretcher, and I suppose I can get over my silly quarrel with Brady for not signing anything, but what I cannot get over is the sheer fact of how magnanimous that man truly is. Say what you will about his game (his time WILL COME) but in strength of character Brady is already MVP.

Sorry About That!

The server that Brady Quinn Fan was residing on also hosts a website for swimmers. And unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that the Olympics are going on and the sport of swimming is the headliner.

As a result, the dedicated server was overloaded to the point where I can’t even access the control panel!

In the wee hours of the morning, because I haven’t been sleeping much with all the stress, I managed to get in, back up BQF, and migrate the site to a new webhost. I’m not sure how long the site will be here, but it should be pretty steady for the time being.

Let me know if there are errors on the board or gallery. Still working out the kinks!

Browns go down to Jets 24-20

Well, that was a pretty ending, was it?

The heavens opened during the 1st quarter and unleashed a wrath upon those in attendance at Cleveland Browns Stardium. Watching the game on tv made me extremely glad that I was sitting home (2 hours southwest of Cleveland) where it was bone dry. (Sorry, John!)

The first series featured the first teams. It also added credibility to my claim that Braylon Edwards really is that good of a WR. Did you see his touchdown grab from an off-the-mark DA pass? All the props goes to Braylon for that catch. I wish we’d get a chance to see what Brady could do throwing to Braylon and Donte, but doesn’t look like that’ll happen anytime soon.
Brady Quinn throws a pass during the Browns 2008 preseason opener
So after the 1 hour weather delay, play resumed with the second stringers, led by Brady. It was great hearing the crowd cheer as he took the field. Brady continued to play through the beginning of the 4th quarter before being relieved by Ken Dorsey. Brady put together solid stats going 13 of 17 for 133 yards and 1 interception. When he exited the game, the Browns had a comfortable 10 point lead.

I should have stopped watching right then and there. Because the remainder of the game was like watching a train wreck. It was so frustrating! Especially the last 30 seconds of the game. How can you be that close to the goal line and NOT score? I wanted to bang my head against the wall.

I’ve never seen such a horrible pass/receiving showing as the time when Dorsey was in the game. 8 for 26? Ouch. And I know the argument. I remember it very clearly from when Brady got the mop-up duty last year. He was throwing to “scrubs” and being blocked for by them as well. However, I don’t recall the viewing of those portions of games as being that painful. Honestly, we couldn’t buy a reception and that was so hard to watch. The run game seemed to have broken down at that point too. Yucky.
Brady Quinn during the Browns 2008 preseason opener vs. the NY Jets
But the 1st 3 quarters of the game showed that the Browns are much improved over last season. The team gave up too many “big plays” to the Jets, but seemed to not have that much trouble moving the chains or defending them. I’m loving that Shaun Rogers acquisition right about now!

The Favre talk wasn’t as much as I thought it’d be. Maybe that’s because much of it occured during the weather delay that I tuned out since I was “working” at the same time. I’m good with the multitasking yo.

The Browns official site posted a Brady highlight video. I’m going to do my own from the footage I capped. I loved the drive where Brady showed his mobility to give the team the 1st down. There is also a post-game lockerroom interview.

Extra Point: NY Jets TE A.J. Schable is ok. He was injured during a Browns kickoff return and left the field on a stretcher. He’s been released from the hospital. *whew*

[BOXSCORE, PICTURES]

Game Day, Woot!

The Browns will host the NY Jets tonight at Cleveland Browns Stadium for their 2008 preseason opener. And for once, the Brownies won’t be the ones with the big Quarterback controversy. The Jets just finalized a deal that brings them a new and future Hall of Fame QB, Brett Favre. To make room, Chad Pennington will either be released or traded, or so that’s what ESPN is reporting on SportsCenter as I type this. So who will the Browns defense face during the game? Most likely Kellen Clemens.

If you will be watching the game on TV, as I will, prepare yourself for nothing but nonstop Favre talk. You should be used to it as it’s been all anyone can talk about lately.

Brady seems to have grown tired of the media asking him about the QB situation. Probably not as tired as we are reading about it. Brady’s a team player and knows his role. That doesn’t mean he’s stopped coveting the starting QB role.

“I wish it were different, but at this point in time, what the coaches and what the organization wants, that’s where they’re pushing it. I wish there would be more competition. Everyone wishes that were the case, but that’s not reality.”

But don’t think Brady is pouting!

God put me here for a reason. There is no reason to be upset. I’ve talked to too many quarterbacks who are doing well now who said if they could go back and do it again, they would have continued to work as if they were the starter and not gotten frustrated.”

That’s ok. Take it all out on the Jets tomorrow.

I hope BQ gets at least one series with the starters. I mean, come on! How else are you going to know how he does against top competition? The preseason in the time to work it all out.

Kickoff is at 7:30 PM.

Ample Play Time on Tap for Thursday?

What’s Thursday? Oh yea, the opening of the Cleveland Browns’ preseason schedule! The team will host the New York Jets with a 7:30 PM kickoff from Browns Stadium.

The Canton Rep is reporting that coach Crennel will likely play the starters for about one quarter before replacing them with the backups.

So we’ll probably see a lot of Brady this Thursday. He routinely got a handful of series in mop up time during last year’s preseason. Expect more this time around, and against slightly better talent; 2nd string instead of those headed for the practice squad or unemployment.

I really don’t think I need to remind any of you that you should watch this if it is at all possible. It will be airing on CBS here in Columbus, so if nothing else, I’ll hook y’all up. I’m just excited for football!

A Feel Good Story

It’s short, but I felt the need to share yet another reason why everyone around here is a fan of Brady Quinn.

18-year-old high school senior Kristina Sliman is a big Cleveland Browns fan.

Kristina, who attends Amherst HS in Cleveland, suffers from cerebral palsy. On Thursday, she was able to go to Browns training camp and meet a number of Cleveland players.

The player she wanted to meet most, Brady Quinn.

Sliman, not only is a fan of the Browns, but also a personal fan of Quinn. She used to follow him when he was here at Notre Dame.

So she couldn’t contain her excitement when Quinn came up to her and gave her a big hug.

The two then shared a nice conversation.

Quinn said its one of the most touching moments he’s had since joining the Browns last season.

And you see, he does this all the time.
