A Voice of Reason?

*gasp* You mean it’s possible?

Terry Pluto may just be my favorite person right now. In reading his take on the QB situation, it shockingly made a lot of sense to me! It felt nice to read another article on the subject and not risk my eyes getting stuck rolled back in my head. Thank you, Terry. Thank you.

The Browns need to have a clear preseason plan for how to prepare Brady Quinn to eventually be a starting quarterback. That’s not to push Derek Anderson out the door. It’s to admit the Browns failed to use Quinn correctly last preseason, and it’s to realize that quarterbacks do get hurt in the NFL. Finally, it’s to pay respect to the difficult schedule facing them.

Preach.

When a guy plays in the preseason — especially the QB — is important. If you have any intention of ever using the quarterback in a meaningful situation, he needs to be on the preseason field in the first half. That allows him to play with guys who are starters and key backups — and face real talent from the opponents. It’s the closest way to simulate regular-season experience, and the second-year man from Notre Dame needs that…

Yes, Quinn threw 45 preseason passes, but not a single one in the first half. He was playing with and against guys headed for the waiver wire and practice squads. It was a poor approach by the coaching staff, especially using Dorsey in front of him.

You don’t say?!
