From the ‘Thank You, Captain Obvious’ Files
I was looking for something to post that wouldn’t enrage me as much as the usual fare, when it comes to Brady and the QB situation in Cleveland. So I headed to the Canton Rep’s Browns section and found the following gem:
That Quinn is throwing to guys who won’t make the team makes it hard to gauge his progress.
Gee, ya think? Kind of sounds like last year’s preseason performances.
There is more “insight” in the most recent press out of the OTAs, but I don’t want to continue to beat a dead horse. We all know what’s going on and it sucks.

Video: Team EAS
Not exactly vintage because it was from a few months ago, but here is a newly shared video featuring Brady, Matt Hasselbeck, and Larry Fitzgerald of Team EAS guys at the Arnold Classic Competition here in Columbus, OH. The feature is titled: “Getting To Know Team EAS”.
Brady Quinn, “The Understudy”
Just picked up the June/July Issue of Men’s Fitness. Brady is listed, in the feature as “The Understudy”. They gave each of the 25 men named to the list their own title instead of numerically ranking them. Tiger Woods appears first as “The One”.
See the scan here.
Also, greeting you on the back cover is Brady’s EAS ad. When I picked it up, I thought it was strange because it was upside down. Then I flipped through the back few pages and noticed that there was a 5 page EAS mini-section that predominantly featured Brady and his workout tips and regimen.
I wasn’t going to actually buy a copy of the mag for the 25 Fittest feature after seeing how tiny Brady’s write-up was. But I thought the EAS work out section was really neat and made the purchase worth it. You can also see those scans in the gallery.
A Voice of Reason?
*gasp* You mean it’s possible?
Terry Pluto may just be my favorite person right now. In reading his take on the QB situation, it shockingly made a lot of sense to me! It felt nice to read another article on the subject and not risk my eyes getting stuck rolled back in my head. Thank you, Terry. Thank you.
The Browns need to have a clear preseason plan for how to prepare Brady Quinn to eventually be a starting quarterback. That’s not to push Derek Anderson out the door. It’s to admit the Browns failed to use Quinn correctly last preseason, and it’s to realize that quarterbacks do get hurt in the NFL. Finally, it’s to pay respect to the difficult schedule facing them.
Preach.
When a guy plays in the preseason — especially the QB — is important. If you have any intention of ever using the quarterback in a meaningful situation, he needs to be on the preseason field in the first half. That allows him to play with guys who are starters and key backups — and face real talent from the opponents. It’s the closest way to simulate regular-season experience, and the second-year man from Notre Dame needs that…
Yes, Quinn threw 45 preseason passes, but not a single one in the first half. He was playing with and against guys headed for the waiver wire and practice squads. It was a poor approach by the coaching staff, especially using Dorsey in front of him.
You don’t say?!
Ta-Da!
So here it is! The new look for Brady Quinn Fan!
I’m probably going to tinker with some more of the colors here and there, but those will be subtle changes.
Anyway, I hope y’all like it!
More OTA Pictures
I knew there had to be more. I added 5 more pictures to BradyQuinnPictures.com from yesterday’s OTA session.
The last one makes me LOL.
Brady, OTA Tidbits
Yesterday was the kickoff of the 2008 Browns OTAs. Today, we get our first looks at pictures and recaps from media in attendance. View the 1st two pictures here. ClevelandBrowns.com has their own gallery; no Brady though.
Here are a few links:
I’m sure I’m not alone, but I hope we continue to get daily reports from all the OTAs. In the offseason, it definitely keeps us fans going; provided it’s not more of the same muck concerning the QB “situation”.
If you haven’t already seen it, I highly recommend reading this wonderful piece on Brady and faith. And on behalf of female fans everywhere, I urge everyone to JUST SAY NO to those ugly pink jerseys. If you’re going to support Brady with a #10 jersey, get a real one! Just because we’re females does not mean we have to or should wear pink things in order to show our sports obsessed sides. Gah!
*If I catch any of Brady’s Bunch in a pink jersey, it’s not going to be pretty!
Men’s Fitness Magazine has named Brady to its “The 25 Fittest Guys in America” list. No big surprise there. The issue hits newsstands on May 19.
Chud Speaks on QB Situation
Browns offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski also thinks the lack of an open competition at QB is a good thing. We Brady fans feel differently. Competition breeds success. But whatever. Water under the bridge.
“We’ve been working with Derek as the starter. I think Brady [Quinn] has had a great attitude about the situation and where we are with it. The bottom line is he has to prepare as the starter every single day in his mind. I was fortunate to be around the Drew Brees-Phillip Rivers situation in San Diego. Two guys who turned out to be great quarterbacks in this league. [Quinn] will be a better football player because of this.”
More from the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
The first 2008 OTA starts Tuesday!
Be Forewarned…
Things might start looking a little different around here.
Upon looking at the site today I decided that I am no longer feelin’ this theme. So I’m now on the search for something new & fresh!
So, in the coming days, if you stop by and things are in disarray, that is why.
Just giving the site a facelift as it’s about to turn 1 year old!
It’s OTA Season!
Sorry, I’ll take whatever news I can get and will continue to be excited about it.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer is reporting that this year’s 12 sessions will begin next week. These are voluntary team practices, but I’m sure the media will be all over these outings and report accordingly. Talk about being under a microscope!
I believe the mandatory minicamp will be June 10-12; it was scrolled on ESPN during today’s NFL Live.
Speaking of NFL Live, Braylon Edwards co-hosted Monday and Tuesday’s shows. He said that this Derek Anderson guy was reaping the benefits of working out with Brady as evidenced by the fact that he now has defined abs. Apparently he was quite fluffy before. I guess we can add this to the list of intagibles that Brady brings to the table. I hope the front office is taking notes!
Brady Showing More of the Same
Coach Crennel has already gone on record with how impressed he is with Brady’s on-the-field leadership skills set. There are some things you just can’t teach and how to be a leader is one of those things.
Brady’s former Fighting Irish teammate — and newly signed Browns undrafted free agent — Travis Thomas is the latest to give props. Thomas all but gushes over Brady and his contributions to his teammates in a new story by the Canton Repository.
“He’s like a coach on the field. He takes control. He helps out guys when they don’t know where to be.”
Or how about this:
“Brady is a great quarterback and a great leader. He’s a team player. I know it’s a transition going from college to pros, but if he can play like he did in college, and build on that, the Browns have a great one.”
You have to be doing something right when people continue to compliment you. I’m seriously liking this trend and I know this won’t be the last time Brady will be praised for his leadership.
